Is Chiropractic Treatment Beneficial for All Ages?
June 25, 2021
After a long school year, your child is thrilled to have a few months to unwind. While they’re out for the summer, you try to get several necessary appointments done. In addition to checkups with the pediatrician and dentist, you wonder—should you take your child to see a chiropractor even though they don’t seem to complain about back or neck discomfort? Can children and teens really benefit from chiropractic care? After all, they don’t typically have the same aches and pains that older people do. Read on to learn why you might want to consider starting to bring your child to the chiropractor’s office.
How Young People Can Benefit from Chiropractic Care
Although children and teens tend to experience pain less easily and frequently than adults and seniors, they still can enjoy some advantages from chiropractic visits. For instance, poor posture isn’t a problem that comes overnight. It usually is the result of years of young patients can learn what proper posture looks and feels like early on, potentially helping them avoid chronic neck and back pain later in life.
In addition, if children do have spinal or alignment distortions, their bodies are usually flexible enough that the issues can be treated and resolved more quickly than with adult bodies. In other words, children tend to respond much faster to treatment because those problems haven’t been around for as long as it often has for adults.
Why Older People Can Take Longer to Respond to Treatment
If your spinal distortions are not injury related, you may wonder why it takes so much longer for chiropractic care to take effect on you than it does on your child. But ask yourself these questions: how many years have you had the same bad posture when you sit, stand, and/or walk? How long have you had this problem before you actually experienced discomfort? Although it may take a little bit longer, through chiropractic treatment you can overcome alignment issues and get relief from chronic pain.
Why Waiting Is Never a Good Idea
Whether you’ve suffered from an injury from a car accident or you’ve had bad posture for many years, putting off treatment only adds difficulty and complications. As with many other health procedures, the sooner that chiropractic care can be administered, the better. Although it may be tempting to “wait it out” or see if your body “heals on its own,” unless the root cause of the pain isn’t addressed, it will continue to hurt and cause even more pain down the road.
In the end, patients of all ages may benefit from chiropractic visits, particularly if they have poor posture. It’s better to address issues as early as possible so that your child can potentially experience less pain as they continue to grow and develop. They’ll thank you when they’re older!
